Day of Ice
My mom thought Level one has too many people, so she took me
to Level 2. she always slip on her butt,
so I’ve got to ski between my mom’s legs. I hate it. I mean, it’s fun. You got
to come. I learned how to slip on the butt. First you got to go on the snow
hill, next, you’ve got to lean forward, if you are not careful, you bump on
something and then you will fall on your butt. Mom bought 双子票。My
mom skies very good. She skied on her own for once and I was waiting for her at
the bottom by the net. I asked she why it took her that long time and she said
the line was long. The best time to go to ski is summer, because its too hot outside
and you are like going to a refrigerator.

Journey to the West (3/13-3/19/2017)
3/14/2017 Flying to Las Vegas
After mommy picked me up at the after-school, we went back
home. The taxi driver got to our house at eight o’clock. The cool thing was
that he could say “Nihao” (hello
in Chinese). We were 1 hour early when we got to the airport. Before my mom found the gate to board, I
saw it was Gate 18 on the board “from Chicago to Las Vegas”. I brought
my iPad, so I played Chinese character games and piano. I slept for two hours
in the airplane.
3/15/2017 Hotels
At morning we went to Bellagio. It was a hotel. I got thirsty. Nevada was a desert, and desert doesn’t have much water. Mommy bought me a water at Starbucks, she bought herself a coffee. We went to Egyptian hotel to find daddy. My mom’s just phone run out of battery! I said "mom, I was just about to play on the phone". Our hotel is called "Treasure Island". After we swam in the hotel's pool in the afternoon, we had buffet in Hotel Mirage. I still like pizza the best. I saw Disney characters on the street at night.

We saw the electricity palace at Hoover Dam (da ba in Chinese). It makes electricity from the water. It's kind of magic. It's cool, eh? Me and my daddy were playing a fun game at the Visitor Center. Daddy chose a comet and tried to destroy the earth. I'm lazy today;-)
3/16/2017 Sedona
I saw a church. We went up there and I lighted a candle. I also did yoga with my mom in the mountains. At dinner, I had Thai food.
3/18/2017 Grand Canyon National Park
This morning I was playing mining with my new friends. Then
we had to leave for breakfast.
My friends said they were going to the canyon, so after we
were all done with eating, we went to see the view too, but I didn’t see my
friends. So I pick up sticks to dig fossils when I see friends.
There r many fossils in the Grand Canyon because there were
a lot of animals. It’s the most diverse planets among all the national parks.
There not a lot of plants over in the
desert. Daddy also used a binocular to teach me about constellation.
We ate breakfast at an old hotel’s restaurant. I heard it
was built in 1930s. We were eating by
the Grand Canyon. I was going to order bacon, but the mistake was it actually
came as pork sausage. Mommy bought an
activity book about constellations.
Then we went to the geology museum. We saw how the Grand Canyon was formed. I can’t tell how it
was made because it took too long time. I will tell u 3 things I learned. 1. Many animals lived there; 2.
On the bumpy side you can find a lot of fossils; 3. The bottom of the canyon is
older than the top.
I saw a painter in the tower of Desert View. He was drawing an old native Indian lady. On
the top of the tower, I used the binocular to see the whole canyon. I saw a
bridge on the Colorado River. I’ve heard a lot of people died there because the
mountain was slippery and they drawn in the flood.
We
left the National Park. After a while, we got to Little Colorado River.
My mom was scared and she didn’t want me to go down there,
even I was not afraid.
3/20/2017 Red Rock State Park and Bye-bye Nevada!
Today is the day that our spring break ends. We came back from Nevada, Arizona to Illinois.
First we got out of our hotel. We took our luggage in our car. We went to Red
Rock state park. They have a store, so I bought my friend something for his
birthday. We bought us a rock, but it’s not a regular rock, if you get a hammer
and smash it, and tada…there is emerald or gold inside. This science rock kit
has a lot of rocks. It tells us how hard the rocks are.
On the way to the airport, we passed by an outlet mall. At there
I ate mini hotdogs. My grandma bought me a little panda toy. By the way, she
loves reading newspaper. She reads it and falls asleep. I love panda, because
I’m from China, and they are cute and furry.
Next, we went to the airport. Daddy dropped us and he drove to the car
rental place to return it. We went inside the airport and I saw wheelchairs. My
grandpa could sit in it and I could push it. Mom just pushed a toy at my shoe,
and I almost tripped. We went upstairs and found a place to sit. There
was a place called Hudson’ newsstand. I was reading a book about weapons. My
mom showed the cover of a magazine and asked me who he is. He is the leader of North Korea

TEFL Lesson Plans (A Wiley Brand)
Ch2:
Helping successful language learning
In the classroom
·
Make new language relevant to leaners
·
Ensure students feel relaxed
·
Grade lessons to become progressively more
challenging
·
Give students encouragement and motivation
·
Repeat language items several times so that
they’re truly learnt
·
Use non-verbal communication, such as mime and
facial expressions, to reinforce meaning
·
Employ regalia to clarify meaning and crate
interest
·
Set new language within a clear context
·
Follow this order for students listen, speak,
read and then write
·
Don’t correct every single mistake, which
inhibits communication, but correct select ones to help students improve
·
Make sure students know the grammatical
principles of the language in order to construct sentences
·
Teach culture, language and content together
Outside the classroom
·
Get some good learning materials, such as a
dictionary and a grammar book
·
Practice frequently
·
Read sentences or at least individual words
aloud to get used to pronouncing the language
·
Try some of the same enjoyable activities in
English as in their own mother tongue
·
Use memory aids such as flashcards
·
Set short-term and long-term learning goals
·
Be willing to make mistakes
Applying the silent way to your course
·
Limit Teacher talking time. Don’t always jump in
when your students need a little thinking time
·
Use visual prompts in the classroom including
color and shape.
·
Have useful chats on the wall
·
Remain silent while the students are working so
that you can observe more. Then you’ll know their strengths and weaknesses
Allowing students to acquire, not lean, with the natural
approach
Learning is very much a conscious process. You sit with a
teacher and pay attention to the rules, structure and vocabulary. However,
acquisition is basically picking up language, allowing the brain to do what it
did naturally when you were an infant
Typically, you speak to the class about a given topic, or
play an audio recording, while the students listen. Then the students do an
activity based on what they’ve heard, such as filling in a gapped txt or
labeling a diagram. You correct the students according to the meaning they’ve
conveyed, not their grammar. Then you set a more challenging communicative
activity on the topic.
·
These are some of the basic principles”
·
The main focus is communicative ability
·
Vocabulary is the most important part of the
language, not grammar
·
Language is all about meaningful messages
Applying the natural approach to your course
·
Get students responding to a listening text by
following a map, filling in a grid, or putting information in order?
·
If you have periods of speaking about a chosen
topic, students can acquire expressions in English very naturally from you
·
Don’t over-correct students. Allow them to
continue during a communicative activity for as long as they’re able to convey
the right meaning (despite dodgy grammar)
·
Use closed questions before open ones. For
example, give students multiple choice or yes/no questions before expecting them
to be comfortable enough with the vocabulary to express and opinion
Teaching playfully with Suggestonpaedia
It’s believed in the power of both conscious and non conscious
influences on the mind. The method uses carefully selected music, art,
decorations, and furniture in the classroom.
